MPEG-2 / MPEG-4 / H.264
Extensions to the MPEG-2 standard to incorporate H.264 as an additional Elementary Stream (ES) type within an MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS), have made H.264 accessible and attractive to broadcasters and network operators. The transition presents a challenge for equipment manufacturers developing H.264 variants because although H.264 offers twice the compression efficiency of MPEG-2, twice the processing complexity is required. Tektronix is able to support an end-to-end H.264 solution, encompassing the 3 main phases, Design, Deploy and Manage.
MPEG-2 Transport Stream technology continues to thrive in a variety of applications including next generation compression H.264 or MPEG-4 encoders. Design verification and debug/analysis may involve MPEG-2 TS testing as well as the evaluation of the elementary stream data.

Application Notes
A Guide to MPEG Fundamentals and Protocol Analysis (Including DVB and ATSC)
MPEG is one of the most popular audio/video compression techniques because it is not just a single standard. Instead it is a range of standards suitable for different applications but based on similar principles.Transition to H.264 Video
Descriptions of application centric tools from Tektronix to aid in the transition to H.264 compression technologySolving Intermittent Transport Stream Problems with CaptureVu™
One of the MTS400's key tools is CaptureVu™ technology, an innovative triggering and stream capture system that allows you to find those difficult intermittent and complex problems that traditional analyzers miss during debug.Troubleshooting and Analyzing Digital Video Signals with CaptureVu
By setting specific and sophisticated trigger conditions for CaptureVu you allow the analyzer to find intermittent problems for you, trigger a recording to memory, or pause analysis to allow you to drill down to the route cause of an issue quickly and efficiently.Picture Quality Measurement
Objective versus Subjective picture quality measurements are vital to efficient and repeatable video processing design and evaluation.Video Compression Challenges
There is rapidly increasing demand for more channels, mobile video, higher quality video, high definition video; however, the rate of growth of these - and consumer expectation - is outstripping the rate of growth of capacity of the digital communications media.
